One of the translations of the word "Doctor" is teacher. One of the tenants of my profession is that I teach others in ways to help them have better lives. ![]() Dr.Dana Keaton
In the office visit we are very specific in goals for you as the patient. There are so many general things we can all do to help ourselves as well. This newsletter and my public speaking are ways I can teach many at once. The evening of April 6 I will be presenting an evening lecture with Ellen Antill. I have been sending my patients to Ellen over the past couple of years for help in putting their health goals into action. As an introduction Ellen has contributed this note for the newsletter. THE AUTHENTIC VOICE - a note from Ellen Antill, Life Coach and Director of Coaching for Authentic Life. As a life coach for women, one of the key issues I address throughout the coaching process is the importance of taking time to relax and how to practice self-care each day. In my own life, this isn't something that comes easily so I've learned to be very intentional about it, and to pay attention to signals my body gives me (headaches, difficulty in concentrating), to listen when it reminds me to kick back and relax. As you're creating more space in your schedule for self-care, it can help to take a closer look at what you're spending, or not spending, your time on. Here are five fill-in-the-blank prompts that might help you in assessing your priorities; they're derived from Julie Morgenstern's book, "Time Management from the Inside Out." 1. I spend way too much time on: 2. I wish I had more time for: 3. Three things I'm merely tolerating in my life are: 4. I procrastinate whenever I have to: 5. If I had a 25th hour, I would spend it on: I hope you'll choose to give yourself the gift of time at some point today, even if it's just for 5 minutes. You're so worth it!

The viruses are out in force this month. If you have not taken the flu prevention treatment I suggest you do that now. It may not be too late. See the previous newsletter on Flu Prevention on our website. Interestingly one of the current viruses seems prone to go to the eye. This causes "pink eye" or "glue eye" and can be quite uncomfortable. It seems to remain viral and not bacterial, so the response to antibiotic eye drops has not been great. Anti viral eye wash or homeopathic eye drops can help and give some relief. Pink eye is quite contagious, so wash hands frequently. Wash towels, washcloths and pillowcases that come in contact with the infected eye in hot water with bleach if possible. We now have antiviral/antibacterial herbal wipes for hands and face for sale at the office. They can really help if you are dealing with the public, traveling or spend time in schools where there is frequent exposure. Laurinsin AntiViral AntiBacterial towelettes Regular price for 75 towlettes is $18.00 With the newsletter special $5.00 coupon the price is only $13.00 through March 2006. |
